Privacy Policy
How Lamin collects, uses, and protects personal data.
This Privacy Policy explains how the Lamin mobile application and its backend service (“Lamin”, “we”, “us”) process personal data. It covers both the personal data of you, the user, and the personal data of third parties (vehicle keepers) that the service returns in response to a plate lookup.
Lamin’s core feature returns information about the registered keeper of a looked-up vehicle, which may include their name, phone number, and address. This is personal data about someone who is usually not the app user. We provide this only for lawful purposes and expect you to use it accordingly (see Terms). 1. Data we collect about you
- Device account identifier. When you first use the app we create an account and issue a random device token, stored on your device and, in hashed form, on our servers. It authenticates your requests and tracks your lookup credit balance.
- Phone number. If you verify your phone number to sign in, we store it to identify your account across devices and to send one-time verification codes by SMS.
- Usage & metering. We record your credit balance and the timing of credit grants. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
- Technical logs. Our servers keep short-lived operational logs (e.g. IP address, request time, and a request identifier) to run the service securely, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems. One-time codes are stored only as a salted hash and expire quickly.
2. Data we return about vehicles and their keepers
In response to a plate lookup, Lamin returns vehicle details (make, model, year, colour, VIN, registration status and dates) and, where available, the registered keeper’s name, phone number, and address. This data originates from vehicle-registration records. We are the controller of the copy processed through Lamin.
3. Why we process data (lawful basis)
- To provide the service (create your account, authenticate you, run lookups, meter credits) — performance of our terms with you.
- To secure the service (rate limiting, abuse prevention, logging) — our legitimate interest in operating a safe service.
- To return registration data — on the basis of our authorisation to make such data available and our and users’ legitimate interest in lawful vehicle checks. You are responsible for having a lawful basis for your own use of any data you retrieve.
4. How long we keep data
We keep your account data until you delete your account. We delete accounts on request (see section 7) immediately. One-time verification codes expire within minutes. Operational logs are retained for a limited period and then deleted or anonymised.
5. Who we share data with
We share data only with service providers that operate the app on our behalf: our hosting provider and our SMS provider (to deliver verification codes to your phone). We do not sell personal data. We may disclose data where required by law.
6. How we protect data
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Bearer tokens and one-time codes are stored only as hashes. On your device, tokens are held in the platform secure store (iOS Keychain, Android Keystore). Access to production data is restricted.
7. Your rights & deleting your account
You can delete your account and associated data at any time:
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.
- On the web: use our account deletion page.
Depending on your location you may also have rights to access, correct, or object to the processing of your personal data. To exercise any right — including as a vehicle keeper whose data appears in results — contact support@lamin.app.
8. Children
Lamin is not directed to children and is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
